Emergency Procedures and Rehearsals

In the event of a fire, natural disaster or other emergency, all children (and visitors if applicable) will be promptly and calmly collected together and if safe to do so, attendance records (containing children’s contact information), mobile phone and emergency bag (containing: spare nappies, wipes and bags; water; spare hats; tissues; gloves; sun cream; and basic first aid equipment) will be taken out of the building via the nearest and safest exit.

The assembly point for the front door exit and side exit is on the section of grass across the road on the grassed area to the side of a neighbor’s house.

If time permits I will get each child to hold on to each other’s hand and lead them to the emergency exit and assembly point.

Once assembled I will double check numbers then phone the appropriate emergency services. Once I have settled the children and are sure they are in the safest location, I will phone parents or emergency contacts and ask them to collect the children.

If for some reason I have a child who is sick or injured and unable to walk, depending on the child’s age and age of other children in my care, I will either carry that child out of the building or find something to put the child in, e.g. buggy, to get them out of the building safely.

The service has two smoke alarms, both mains connected which are checked every month and batteries replaced on 1st July every year (or as necessary). An evacuation rehearsal is carried out every six months on the first Monday of every January and July, and the results recorded.
